The HiLT Lab is focused on the research and application of Human Intelligence and Language Technologies. It is a research lab located at the University of North Texas. We are a part of the Computer Science and Engineering Department under the College of Engineering.
Denton, a college town of about 115,000 residents, has a total university enrollment of over 50,000 including nearly 15,000 students at Texas Women’s University. Denton together with Dallas and Fort Worth, whose city limits are just over 20 miles to the southeast and southwest, respectively, anchor the Golden Triangle metroplex, the fifth largest metropolitan area in the country with a total population of over 6.5 million.
UNT is strategically investing to become a tier-one research institution, leading to the development of world-class research facilities, an increase in outstanding researchers, and rapid growth in federally funded research. It was named one of America's 100 Best College Buys for 16 consecutive years and a Best in the West college by The Princeton Review. UNT has a legacy of conservation and environmentalism, for teaching green, researching green, and simply being green in everything they do. As of 2016, UNT has been named a Tree Campus USA University for 8 years in a row.
Located on the beautiful 290-acre UNT Discovery Park Campus, we are located in Denton, TX in the Dallas-Forth Worth Metroplex. Discovery Park includes the College of Engineering, College of Information, and the Computing and Information Technology Center. Discovery Park promotes and supports interactive and multidisciplinary STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) research, education, and training. When fully developed, Discovery Park will house the largest high performance computing facility of any academic institution in north Texas and will be the only university research park in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that will offer rentable space, wet and dry labs, or a 3000 sq. ft. 10,000-class clean room/nanofabrication facility.
Dr. Rodney Nielsen received a dual Ph.D. in Computer Science and Cognitive Science from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2008. He is currently the Director of the HiLT Lab and an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at UNT.
Our students include Undergraduate, Masters, and PhD Students. We have one of the largest labs in the Computer Science department. Meet all of the HiLT Lab crew.
We are always looking for new promising students that are interested in related topics and are willing to work hard. Contact us to do research with the lab. See the UNT Catalog and the CSE Department website to apply for Graduate Admissions.
